Not actual truck I looked at.

2003 Tacoma double cab 4x4 140k miles. They were asking $12,900. What? Thought they were smoking some serious crack, but these things look like they hold their value. The back seat is just too small to my comfy for us. I think we may have to go full sized truck if we’re gonna truck.

Consider the S10 if you are looking at the Tacoma. My 4.3 has 125,000 miles and has never done me wrong

It's an $8,000 truck with a 50% Toyota Tax.

I’ll certainly look at a crew cab s-10 if I can find one.

That’s what I was thinking.

Yep, it’s insanity. Look up what a decent T100 SR5 goes for sometime.

Tacoma tax is right up there with 240sx drift tax and Subaru bro tax.

everyone thought the back seats were a good size

Yeah, I’ll have to add these to consideration I’m not a fan but they’d do everything we’d need.

The next gen has significantly more room in the back seat but it comes with a significantly higher Toyota tax and feels like a barge going down the road. Your initial thoughts are probably right. If you are going bigger, you might as well go full-size. With a double-cab the dimensions aren’t that much different. Fuel economy is about the same too.

Yeah I’m going to take the Tacoma off my search. I’d like to climb a couple other small trucks before I rule them all out.

I sat in the GMC/Chevy when I was shopping a couple of years ago. The seat killed the deal before I even drove it. It was like a thin sheet of fabric stretched over a set of springs. My ‘83 Mazda truck had more substantial seats and they were skinned in vinyl .

It is more of a double cab tax then it is a Tacoma tax.

Last year I was looking for a small truck and wanted a Tacoma. Prices were high, but the access cab were reasonable. I ended up with a 2.7L 4x4 access cab with manual. Great truck.

Go with what feels right, it will work out for you in the long run.

I dunno man, the other cabs seem just as pricey compared to the other makes.

i had 1000 lbs in the back. Got tons of compliments on it. the 4.0 was decent on power. mine even had leather and a sunroof. the 4x4 systems was beastly in the snow.

I looked at these when I was looking for a DD to haul both kids and the inevitable pile of stuff every day. I went with an E46 BMW wagon in part because it was MUCH CHEAPER than a comparable Tacoma in similar year/mileage in my area. That, and my dog can ride in the back of the wagon instead of the front seat or the bed.

Exhibit A: 2005 extended cab TRD with 86k - $13,500

http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/5715268455…

And there isn’t a single BMW wagon on CL right now locally over $12k even for a 2008 5 series with AWD.

I just think it’s funny because no one will ever comment on your Tacoma, “wow, you drive A Toyota!?” But get a BMW for half the money and everyone thinks you’re rich.

I don’t get it. Why do Tacomas never depreciate? A similar 4runner is going to be a bit more than a third of that price.

I was shopping for trucks before I got my Jeep. It was ridiculous. Dodges seem to be the only ones that depreciate like a normal car. The Toyotas are insane. Jeeps are insane too, but I finally found a stripper model with low miles that the PO had spent the money to put larger wheels and tires on.

I don’t know, but it’s why I went and bought a brand new one. I will happily let some idiot give me half my money back in ten years.
